Elliott Named AVCA West Region Player Of The Year

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's Emily Elliott has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association's West Region Player of the Year for a second straight season, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Elliott also earned first-team All-Region honors for a third straight year from the AVCA in voting by the region's head volleyball coaches. Elliott headlines a 14-player first team from the AVCA, while four additional players earned honorable mention.

Elliott also earned first-team All-Region honors for a second straight year from another organization, the D2 Conference Commissioners Association, on Wednesday. She was one of seven players named to the first team in voting by the region's sports information directors. Elliott also earned second-team honors from that group as a sophomore.

Elliott has earned All-Region honors for the past three years from both organizations.

Elliott is enjoying her best statistical season for the Golden Eagles one year after leading the program to a first-ever national championship in 2023. She leads the nation in total kills with 598 and is second in the country in kills per set with 5.29. She also leads the nation in points with 702 and points per set with 6.21.

Earlier this season, she became the CCAA's career kills leader and her record now stands at 1,986.

She led the nation in points per set last season with 5.69 and averaged 4.77 kills per set, which was a new program and CCAA record.

Elliott has registered double-figure kills in 26 of 28 matches so far this season, including 16 with 20 or more and three with 30 or more. She set a new CCAA single-match record with 35 in a five-set win over Seattle Pacific on Sept. 6 and she had 32 in a four-set win over Cal Poly Pomona in a CCAA Tournament semifinal match on Nov. 22.

Elliott also leads the conference in aces with 64 and is eight off the program single-season record of 72 she set last season. Her 182 career aces are one off the Cal State LA record held by Kristy Sain.

Elliott was one of seven CCAA players to earn spots on the 14-player first team from the AVCA. She was joined by Cal Poly Pomona's Samantha Campion, Caitlin Mueller, and Sarah Ybarra, San Francisco State's Kim DeBoer and Tamiya Wilson and Cal State San Bernardino's Ashley Robinson.

She was joined on the D2 CCA first team by DeBoer, Stanislaus State's Gabby Rawson and Campion, who was named the region's Player of the Year.

Cal State LA, the No. 7 seeds, will face No. 2 San Francisco State in a first-round NCAA West Regional match on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Cal Poly Pomona.
