BOULDER CITY, NEV. -- Cal State LA's women's golf team had a strong final round Tuesday to wrap up play in the National Preview hosted by Missouri-St. Louis.
The Golden Eagles recorded the first under-par team score in program history to edge past California Collegiate Athletic Association foe Cal State East Bay and into eighth place in a field of 14 top programs.
Cal State LA shot a final-round 2-under-par 286 for a 54-hole total of 870, one shot ahead of the Pioneers, who had a final round of 288 and a three-round score of 871. Cal State LA just missed catching seventh-place West Texas A&M, which shot a final round of 296 to finish at 868. West Texas A&M is ranked No. 3 in the nation in the most recent WCGA national rankings.
No. 9 Cal State San Marcos of the CCAA won the event with a score of 830, one shot ahead of No. 1 Dallas Baptist at 831. No. 6 St. Mary's was third at  840, No. 23 Midwestern State was fourth at 851 and No. 13 UT Tyler rounded out the top-five at 853.
Morgan Sjoerdsma shot her second round of 4-under-par 68 and finished in a tie for sixth at 8-under-par 208. She had five more birdies on Tuesday to give her 16 for the tournament, which was tied for third among all players. She birdied two of her final three hole to climb into the top-six finish.
Joshlyn Ayala finished 13th after shooting a final-round of 71, her second straight sub-par round that left her at 5-under-par 211 for the tournament. She had two birdies and 15 pars on Tuesday in a solid performance.
Daniela Andrade shot a final round of 73 and moved up nine places to 42nd for the tournament with a total of 222. She had four birdies during her round.
Brenna Ozel had her best round of the tournament with a 74 that left her in 58th place with a 54-hole total of 229. She had a pair of birdies to highlight her round.
Harley Richardson finished 68th place with a three-day total of 236 after shooting a final-round 78.
Another great development on Tuesday was the first under-par round of her Cal State LA career by
Carissa Freeman, who was playing as an individual. She had three birdies during her final round of 71 that gave the Golden Eagles three players to break par during the round. She was 49th overall with a total of 226.
This tournament completed the fall portion of Cal State LA's 2024-25 schedule. The Golden Eagles will return to competition on Feb. 3-4 when they host the LA Spring Kickoff at Rio Hondo Golf Club in Downey.
