LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's team battled competitively Wednesday against No. 19 Azusa Pacific at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex, but ultimately fell to the Cougars, 6-1.
The Golden Eagles and Cougars battled evenly in the doubles and Cal State LA had a glimmer of hope after taking a 5-4 lead at No. 3 doubles and pulling into a tie at No. 2 doubles. The Cougars, though, broke back to even the score at No. 3 doubles and won the last two games of the No. 2 doubles match to earn the doubles point.
Azusa Pacific (18-4) then took five of the six singles contests to wrap up the victory.
Cal State LA did have a big bright spot, though, when Hidecka Takamura picked up a well-played 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 win at No. 3 singles over Azusa Pacific's Vini Bautista.
Cal State LA's
Sarah Olmos took an early lead in the No. 1 singles match, but Azusa Pacific's Eleonora Liga, ranked No. 4 in the nation in the latest singles rankings, rallied for a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Â
