RIVERSIDE -- Cal State LA's men's and women's track and field team competed Friday night at the Chris Rinne Twilight at UC Riverside.

Leon Tafirenyika had the team's top performance after winning the 400 meters with a new career best of 46.45. That mark is a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II championships and keeps Tafirenyika in the No. 4 spot nationally. The mark also set a new meet record, eclipsing the old standard of 47.99 set by Marcel Espinoza of Cal State Fullerton in 2018. Tafirenyika is a returning All-American in the 400 after placing seventh in the country last season. Teammate Shannon Turner, running in the 400 meters for the first time this season, finished fifth in 48.06.

Qwinton Workman also recorded a victory, taking the 400 hurdles with a time of 51.63. Cal State LA also won both men's relays, winning the 4x100 relay in 42.81 and the 4x400 with a season's best 3:12.45.

Porte-Joie Tshiaba was second in the high jump with a mark of 6-9 and Jesus Nichol II was second in the 800 in 1:53.56

Alyssa Johnson was fourth in the long jump for the best women's finish with a mark of 18-1.75, while Isis Johnson was fifth with a mark of 17-3.50.

Eden Hahn was 10th in the 200 in 25.57 and 14th in the 100 with a time of 12.50.

Cal State LA will return to action next weekend at UC Irvine's Steve Scott Invitational.
