LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's
Shane Bell has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 4-10, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Bell averaged 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists to lead Cal State LA to a pair of home wins last week and help the Golden Eagles improve their record of 7-2 overall and 3-1 in conference. He went 10-of-12 on 3-pointers (83.3 percent) and finished the week shooting 62 percent from the field (13-of-21).
This is Bell's second Player of the Week award this season.
The 6-5 guard opened the week with a 12-point, eight-assist, five-rebound effort in an 82-62 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday.
On Saturday, Bell put up a CCAA season-high 29 points and tied a program record while going 8-for-10 on 3-pointers. After going down 47-43 in the first half against Stanislaus State, he put up 20 points in the second half to help secure a 95-83 victory for Cal State LA.
Bell is now fourth in the conference in scoring (14.8) and leads the CCAA with 5.1 assists per game. His 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio also leads the league and is double the second-place mark.
Bell is the first Golden Eagle to earn multiple CCAA Player of the Week honors in the same season since Vincent Camper won three in 2007-08.
Cal State LA is in finals week and will not play any games this week. Before starting their holiday break, the Golden Eagles will travel to Fresno Pacific for a non-conference game on Tuesday, Dec. 19. The Golden Eagles will resume conference play on Dec. 30 a Cal State Dominguez Hills.
