Elliott Earns West Region Player Of The Year Honors

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's Emily Elliott and Iane Henke earned All-West Region honors on Wednesday with two organizations naming Elliott the West Region Player of the Year.

Elliott earned Player of the Year honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Wednesday morning in voting by the region volleyball coaches and the DII Conference Commissioners Association named Elliott as the Player of the Year when it announced its All-Region team on Wednesday afternoon. That team is selected by the region's sports information directors.

Elliott also earned first-team All-West Region honors from the AVCA for a second straight season. She received second-team honors from the DII CCA last year and first-team honors this year.

Henke, too, earned first-team All-West Region honors from the AVCA for a second straight year.

Elliott has enjoyed her best season yet with the Golden Eagles and leads the West Region in kills with 478 and points with 566.5. She is also third in the nation in points with 5.40 per set and seventh in the nation with 4.55 per set. Elliott was also second in the conference - to Henke - in aces with 0.49 per set.

Elliott registered double-figure kills in 27 of 28 matches, including seven with 20 or more. She also had two of the top-10 service matches of the season, including matching a CCAA season-best with eight aces against San Francisco State.

Henke is second on the team with 322 kills and 414.5 points and she leads the Golden Eagles with 314 digs and 58 aces. She leads the CCAA in aces, is eighth in points and 10th in digs. She was the AVCA's National Freshman of the Year in 2022.

Elliott and Henke were two of the seven California Collegiate Athletic Association players earning spots on the 14-player first team by the AVCA. They were joined by Samantha Campion and Daisy Duke of Cal Poly Pomona and Marlee Nunley, Jenna Patton and Trinity Sheridan of Cal State San Bernardino. Tia Andaya and Emma Daoud-Hebert of Central Washington, Hula Crisostomo and Ajack Malual of Chaminade, Anna Massari and Abigail Nua of Point Loma and Hannah Hair of Seattle Pacific rounded out the first team. All 14 players on the first team are on teams playing in the NCAA Division II West Regional beginning on Thursday in San Bernardino.

Elliott was one of only three players from the CCAA on the DII CCA first team. She was joined by Sheridan and Patton from Cal State San Bernardino. Kirra Schulz of Concordia, Hair, Andaya and Crisostomo on the seven-player first team.

Cal State LA, the No. 4 seeds, will face No. 5 Seattle Pacific in a first-round NCAA West Regional match on Thursday at noon at Cal State San Bernardino.
