No. 23 Golden Eagles Record Big Road Sweep At Sonoma

ROHNERT PARK -- Cal State LA's women's volleyball team put the finishing touches on an outstanding road swing with a big California Collegiate Athletic Association road win at Sonoma State.

The Golden Eagles recorded their second straight sweep with an impressive 25-22, 25-22, 25-21 win over the Seawolves in the Wolves Den. Cal State LA (9-7, 7-1 CCAA) stretched its winning streak to a season's best five in a row and handed the Seawolves their first home loss of the season. More importantly, the Golden Eagles moved into sole possession of first place in the conference standings with the victory.

Emily Elliott, who eclipsed 1,000 career kills during a three-set win over Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday, was tremendous again on Saturday. She had a match-high 19 kills, one ace, two blocks, seven digs and a hitting percentage of .389 to lead the way. The reigning CCAA Offensive Player of the Week had 32 kills in six sets this week and a total of 38.5 points. She now has 1,026 kills in her outstanding Cal State LA career.

Ashley Dittmann had 10 kills, two blocks and three digs, while Iane Henke had five kills, three aces and six digs.

Kiana Richardson had 10 kills and two blocks for Sonoma State (9-6, 4-4 CCAA).

Jaden Grova had 20 set assists, one ace and six digs, while Eliza Cannon had 11 set assists, one kill and four blocks

Cal State LA had a 39-31 edge in kills and outhit the Seawolves, .262-.165. The Golden Eagles had a slim 8-7 advantage in service aces with each team having 10 service errors. Sonoma State had a 10-7 advantage in blocks.

Cal State LA grabbed a 17-12 lead in the opening set after a block by Rachel Lowe and Cannon, only to see the Seawolves pull to within 17-16. Sonoma State got within one point three more times, but never could catch the Golden Eagles, who got a kill from Elliott, an ace from Henke and an attack error to open up a 24-20 lead. Sonoma State saved two set points, but a kill by Elliott ended the set.

Cal State LA trailed early in the second set, 9-5, but broke free from a 12-12 tie with a four-point run started by a service error and ending with two Elliott kills and an ace by Grova. The Seawolves got within 16-15, but another four-point run, this one including a service error, an ace by Henke, a kill by Dittmann and another ace by Henke put the Golden Eagles in control at 20-15. Sonoma State rallied to get within 21-20, but a kill by Elliott and an ace by Elliott made it 23-20. The Golden Eagles got to set point at 24-21 after a block by Cannon and Dittmann and ultimately won the set on a service error.

Cal State LA opened up leads of 13-8 and 15-10 in the final set and held off each Sonoma State comeback attempt. The Seawolves got within one point three times, the final time at 22-21, but an Elliott kill and two attack errors ended the match.
