Emily Elliott reached an impressive career milestone, Cal State LA's volleyball team moved into a share of the California Collegiate Athletic Association lead.
Elliott had a match-high 13 kills and eclipsed 1,000 for her brilliant Cal State LA career and the Golden Eagles swept past Cal Poly Humboldt, 25-18, 25-20, 25-16 Thursday night in Lumberjack Arena. Cal State LA (8-7, 6-1 CCAA), the defending CCAA champions, moved into a tie for first place in the CCAA after Cal Poly Pomona fell at San Francisco State on Thursday.
Elliott entered Thursday's match needing six kills and, after a slow start, she moved past 1,000 kills in the second set and ended the night with 1,007. She also had four service aces and finished the match with 17.5 points.
Iane Henke had 12 kills,11 digs, four assists and an ace, while
Ashley Dittmann had seven kills and 10 digs.
Awelina Fakalata had eight kills for the 'Jacks (4-11, 1-6 CCAA).
Jameson Sanders had a team-high 16 digs and four service aces and
Haley Roundtree had four kills in just seven swigs and had a team-high five blocks.
Jaden Grova had 13 set assists and
Eliza Cannon had 10 assists and three blocks.
Cal State LA had a 38-22 advantage in kills, a 7-6 edge in blocks and an 11-1 edge in service aces. Cal State LA hit at a .237 percentage compared to .066 for the 'Jacks.
Cal State LA trailed early in the opening set, but broke a 12-12 tie with a 7-0 run highlighted by an ace by Sanders and a pair of kills by Henke. The Golden Eagles got to set point at 24-17 and closed out the set with a kill by Dittmann.
The Golden Eagles also trailed in the second set, 12-10, before taking the lead for good with a 6-0 run. Henke had an ace during the run and kills by Dittmann and Roundtree gave the Golden Eagles a 16-12 lead. An ace by Elliott gave the Golden Eagles a 20-14 lead and an ace by Grova got the Golden Eagles to set point at 24-18. A kill by Elliott eventually ended the frame.
Cal State LA took a 15-12 lead in the final set and steadily pulled away to close out the match. A kill by Dittmann pushed the lead to 22-14 and Henke scored the final three Cal State LA points on kills by end the match.
Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday at Sonoma State at 1:30 p.m.Â
