No. 12 Golden Eagles Get A High Five Against Yotes

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team picked up its fourth straight win on Sunday and moved into sole possession of first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Golden Eagles struck early and often and went on to a 5-0 win over Cal State San Bernardino Sunday in University Stadium. With the victory, Cal State LA (10-1-1, 5-1 CCAA) has now won at least 10 games in 12 consecutive seasons.

The Golden Eagles also moved into sole possession of the conference lead after Cal State Monterey Bay's tie with Cal State East Bay dropped the Otters two points back.

Cal State LA got goals from four different players and also scored via a Cal State San Bernardino own goal.

Tommaso Belli opened the scoring on a play that started with a Belli corner kick. Bryan Ortega touched the ball back to Belli, who lofted a shot that glanced off Cal State San Bernardino goalkeeper Aiden Hayes' fingertips and into the goal just 3:35 into the game.

The Golden Eagles made it 2-0 in the 18th minute after a long pass from Andrew Portis to Jeppe Paulsen, who sent a pass into the box to Ortega, who notched his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Paulsen and Portis received assists on the play.

The Golden Eagles made it 3-0 in the 29th minute on a penalty kick goal in the 29th minute from Oliver Diaz. Diaz scored his fourth goal of the season and now has goals in three straight games.

Cal State San Bernardino opened the second half with some sustained pressure and Travis Babineau had a pair of outstanding chances just miss. In the 53rd minute, he had a hard shot bounce directly off the left post and in the 56th minute, he had a shot bounce off the crossbar and stay out.

Cal State LA made it 4-0 in the 69th minute on an own goal. The Golden Eagles had some good pressure in the box and the ball was inadvertently kicked into the goal by a Cal State San Bernardino defender.

The Golden Eagles made it 5-0 in the 79th minute on a free kick goal by Sergio Vega, a perfectly-placed blast from just outside the box. Vega scored his second goal of the season.

Julian Aadlandsvik made two saves for the Golden Eagles to pick up his ninth shutout of the season.
