Golden Eagles Battle To Scoreless Tie With Broncos

POMONA -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team continued its unbeaten streak in conference play Thursday night with a hard-earned tie at conference-leading Cal Poly Pomona.

The Golden Eagles recorded their second straight shutout and their sixth of the season in a 0-0 tie with the Broncos at Kellogg Stadium. Cal State LA (5-1-5, 2-0-3 CCAA) remains four points behind first-place Cal Poly Pomona (6-2-3, 4-0-1 CCAA), which leads with 13 points after taking over the conference lead with four straight wins to open the conference schedule.

Taesja Paopao continued her outstanding play and the Cal State LA defense was stingy once again, limiting Cal Poly Pomona's scoring chances.

The Broncos held a 9-3 edge in shots and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Paopao made three saves in the contest, while Cal Poly Pomona's Bella Hara made two saves for the Broncos.

Jassmin Ortiz was active in the game and had a pair of shots, both on frame, in the second half. Shelby Melin had the other shot attempt on a first-half free kick that sailed high from distance.

Paopao preserved the shutout with two saves in the final five minutes of the game.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a home game against Cal State San Bernardino at 11:30 a.m.
