ROHNERT PARK -- Cal State LA's men's basketball team ended a difficult road trip with a heartbreaking decision Saturday at Sonoma State.

Deuce Walker and
Dominic Escobar had six points each for the Golden Eagles.
Cal State LA shot 44.1 percent for the game (26-of-59) and was 10-of-26 from 3-point range, while Sonoma State shot 53.3 percent (24-of-45) and was 7-of-15 from 3-point range. The difference in the game came from the free-throw line, where Cal State LA was 9-of-13 while Sonoma State was 17-of-20, including the final three of the game from Nick Medeiros. Sonoma State had a 33-25 rebounding edge, while the Golden Eagles committed only 10 turnovers to 17 for the Seawolves.
The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as eight points in the first half, but roared back to take the halftime lead. The Golden Eagles erased a 19-11 deficit with an 11-0 run that started with a 3-pointer from Sokol, a jumper from Pearre, a game-tying 3-pointer from Sokol and a go-ahead 3-pointer from Escobar. Cal State LA built a 27-22 lead after another 3-pointer by Sokol and settled for a 31-28 halftime lead after a basket from Walker.
Cal State LA led for most of the second half and took a nine-point advantage on a basket by Lazo with 10 minutes to go. A 3-pointer by Lazo gave the Golden Eagles a 64-58 lead with six minutes to play, but the Seawolves tied it at 64-64 with four minutes left. A 3-pointer by Moore and a steal and basket by Lazo gave the Golden Eagles a 69-64 lead with 3:21 remaining. The Seawolves tied it at 69-69 after a pair of free throws before an offensive rebound and basket by Pearre gave the Golden Eagles their last lead at 71-69 with 40 seconds left. Sonoma State then took the lead with three free throws with 24 seconds left and the Golden Eagles had great looks at two jump shots over the final seconds that just wouldn't fall.
Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday with a home game against Cal State Dominguez Hills at 7:30 p.m.
