ARCATA -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team was forced to settle for a draw against Cal Poly Humboldt on Friday in the Golden Eagles' first game back after seeing its lengthy California Collegiate Athletic Association unbeaten streak come to an end last Sunday.
The Golden Eagles got the first goal of the game, but Cal Poly Humboldt tied it before halftime and neither team scored in the second half of a 1-1 tie at College Creek Field. No. 7 Cal State LA (7-1-1, 1-1-1 CCAA) had advantages in shots and corner kicks, but was unable to score in the final 80-plus minutes of the game.
Jeppe Paulsen opened the scoring with his second goal of the season in the ninth minute of the game, but Cal Poly Humboldt's Juan Perez got the equalizer in the 36th minute, notching his fourth goal of the season.
Cal State LA had a 13-8 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks, but Cal Poly Humboldt (1-3-6, 0-1-2 CCAA) managed the tie.
Paulsen gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead when he was on the end of a nifty passing sequence that involved Anton Oloffson and
Carl Solli, who both picked up assists. Oloffson played it into the box, where Solli flicked it over to Paulsen, who was alone in front and shot quickly into an open corner of the net.
Oloffson picked up his second assist of the season and Solli did as well.
The Golden Eagles, though, surrendered the tying goal in the 36th minute. Perez got free in the box and knocked in a pass from Edgar Gonzalez to tie it.
Paulsen had three shots for the Golden Eagles, including two on goal, while
Jacob Chong also had a pair of shots on goal.
Bryan Ortega had two shots.
Cal State LA goalkeeper
