LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's soccer turned in its best offensive showing of the season and earned a 2-2 tie with Simon Fraser Saturday in University Stadium.
The Golden Eagles struck for a pair of goals in the first nine minutes to erase an early 1-0 deficit, but then allowed a game-tying goal in the 34th minute and had to settle for the draw. The two goals were a season high for the Golden Eagles (2-1-1), but so were the two goals allowed. Cal State LA's first three games were all decided by 1-0 scores.
Simon Fraser (1-1-2) finished a Southern California trip with ties against the Golden Eagles and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Simon Fraser had a 10-8 advantage in shots, while Cal State LA had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Areli Reyes started and played the first half for the Golden Eagles while making three saves.
Olivia Spanish made three second-half saves for the Golden Eagles.
Nicole Anderson made one save for Simon Fraser.
The Red Leafs opened the scoring just 1:25 into the contest when Kaylese Callender headed in a cross from Jenieva Musico to give the visitors a quick 1-0 lead.
Cal State LA responded brilliantly, though, scoring twice in a 1:32 span to take the lead.
Erin Schrock ran onto a nice pass from
Liliana Gonzalez, dribbled into the box and fired a perfect shot just inside the far post to tie the game.Â
Then, less than two minutes later,
Destiny Moedano sent a long free kick into the box and
Melody Landphear collected it in front of scored from in close to give the Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead.
The lead didn't last, though, because Simon Fraser's Kiara Buono got clear from a pair of Cal State LA defenders and fired a shot from an angle that nestled inside the far post for the equalizer in the 34th minute.Â
Neither team was able to score during the second half and the game ended in a draw.
Moedano had two Cal State LA's eight shots that included a header from
Haley Clark that bounced off the near post in the 41st minute of the opening half.
Cal State LA will return to action on Wednesday with a home match against Biola.
