ROHNERT PARK -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team saw its impressive conference winning streak come to an end in its regular-season finale at Sonoma State.
The Golden Eagles were unable to put together much offensively and fell to the Seawolves, 62-46, in the Wolves Den. Cal State LA (13-12, 12-7 CCAA) had its five-game California Collegiate Athletic Association winning streak snapped and finished the conference schedule in third place.
Sonoma State (10-15, 9-10 CCAA) had a lot more riding on Saturday's outcome and needed a win to stay alive in the chase for the sixth and final spot in the CCAA Tournament. By virtue of their win over the Golden Eagles on Saturday, the Seawolves clinched the final spot and will meet the Golden Eagles for a third time this season in a first-round matchup.
Cal State LA shot just 23.7 percent for the game (18-of-76) and made just 5-of-24 attempts from 3-point range. Sonoma State shot 44 percent for the game (22-of-50) and was just 3-of-17 from 3-point range.Â
The Golden Eagles fell behind 14-8 after one quarter and 38-20 by halftime. The Golden Eagles trimmed the lead to 11 points entering the fourth quarter, but managed just nine points in the final period.
Nicole Flennaugh scored 21 points for the Golden Eagles and knocked down five more 3-pointers.
Jada Johnson had eight points and 13 rebounds, while
Lily Buggs had five points and five rebounds.
Sonoma State got 11 points and four rebounds from Aaryn Pickett and 10 points and three rebounds from Amanda Luckett.
Raya Smith had four points and four rebounds for the Golden Eagles, while
Anai Washington had four points and one rebound.
Cal State LA will return to action next Thursday at noon when the Golden Eagles face Sonoma State again in the first round of the CCAA Tournament.
