LOS ANGELES -- Four members of Cal State LA's women's volleyball team have been named to the 2022 CSC Academic All-District teams, selected by the district's College Sports Communicators, the organization announced last week.
Shelby Grubbs,
Eliza Cannon,
Ashley Dittmann and
Jaden Grova all earned Academic All-District honors for the Golden Eagles. Each has earned the award for the first time.
All four will be competing for the Golden Eagles later this week in the NCAA Division II Championships after helping the team win the West Region title for the first time since 2005.
The awards honor student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program (formerly known as the CoSIDA Academic All-America program) recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
To be considered for the honor, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50% of the team's games at their position. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically.Â
Grubbs has had an outstanding playing and academic career with the Golden Eagles. Earlier this fall, Grubbs on the California Collegiate Athletic Association's Elite 13 Award for having the highest grade point among volleyball players at the conference tournament site. Grubbs, who graduated with her degree in communication studies last spring, is pursuing her Master's degree in education foundations at Cal State LA. She earned her bachelor's degree in three years and carries a 4.0 grade point average.
She also earned All-CCAA honorable mention this year after helping the Golden Eagles win the CCAA regular-season title for the first time since 2005. She is currently second on the team in blocks with 101.
Cannon earned All-CCAAÂ second-team honors for a second straight season after leading the Golden Eagles in set assists for a second straight season with 584. She was outstanding in the West Regional and helped the team's offense stay in rhythm.
An outstanding student, Cannon has earned CCAA All-Academic honors and CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition in each of her first two years with the program. She is a political science major and carries a 3.53 grade point average.
Grova is enjoying her best season with the Golden Eagles and is second on the team in assists with 356 and fifth in service aces with 22.
A psychology major, Grova has earned CCAA All-Academic honors and CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition in each of her first two years with the program. She carries a 3.79 grade point average.
Dittmann, meanwhile, is having her best season with the Golden Eagles. She earned West Regional All-Tournament honors after earning All-CCAA second-team honors for the first time in her career. She is third on the team in kills with 254 and points with 300. She is also third on the team in digs with 239 and fourth on the team in service aces with 27.
A business major, Dittmann has earned CCAA All-Academic honors and CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition after joining the program from UC Riverside. She carries a 3.75 grade point average.
The Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
