POMONA -- Cal State LA dropped a three-set decision to Central Washington on Friday at Kellogg Arena, falling by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-8.
The opening set featured four ties and one lead change as Cal State LA remained within striking distance. The Golden Eagles recorded 12 kills and hit .133, but Central Washington responded with 15 kills and a .293 hitting percentage to take the frame, 25-17.
Cal State LA battled through another competitive set in the second. The teams played through four ties and three lead changes before Central Washington pulled away for a 25-19 victory and a two-set advantage.
Central Washington closed out the match with a strong third set, recording nine kills without an attacking error for a .643 hitting percentage. The Wildcats took the final frame, 25-8, to complete the sweep.
Amber Walker led Cal State LA with seven kills and a .250 hitting percentage while adding one block assist. Samarah DaCoud contributed six kills, a team-high seven digs and two service aces.
Isabella Barrios and Mia Webster recorded three kills apiece. Barrios also added one service ace, three digs and two block assists.
McKinley Chase directed the Golden Eagle offense with nine assists, while Ruby Ennis finished with seven assists, five digs and one ace. Juliana Speiski contributed four assists and five digs.
Teegan Charapata added six digs and one service ace. Naomi Jackson recorded one kill on two attempts, while Finley Charapata converted her only attack of the match.
Central Washington finished with advantages in kills (29-25), hitting percentage (.273-.000), service aces (10-5), total blocks (10-2) and digs (42-36).
The loss moved Cal State LA to 1-5 on the season, while Central Washington improved to 4-1. The Golden Eagles will conclude the Bronco Classic tomorrow against Western Washington at 1:30 p.m.
