Golden Eagles Battle To Scoreless Tie At San Marcos

SAN MARCOS -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team turned in another sensational defensive performance on Thursday, but the Golden Eagles had to settle for a 0-0 tie against Cal State San Marcos.

The Golden Eagles allowed only two shots, but the Cougars only allowed four and the two California Collegiate Athletic Association contenders picked up one point in the conference standings with the draw. Cal State LA (5-2-4, 2-0-3 CCAA) now has nine points in the conference race, one point back of Cal State San Marcos (5-4-3, 3-1-1 CCAA). The Golden Eagles recorded their seventh shutout of the season and second straight.

Areli Reyes made one save for the Golden Eagles to post her conference-leading seventh shutout of the season, while Allison Marcure made two saves for the Cougars and posted her sixth shutout of the year. In a big moment in the match, Marcure saved a penalty kick by Cal State LA's Miyah Coleman early in the second half.

Cal State LA had a 3-1 advantage in shots in the first half and each team had one shot in the second period. Cal State LA had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks, two in each half.

Lauren Sanchez had two shots for the Golden Eagles, including one on goal, while Destiny Moedano had one attempt that sailed high.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a home game against Cal State San Bernardino at 2 p.m.
