The Golden Eagles managed to force the match into a decisive fifth frame, but Regis rallied from an 8-5 deficit and pulled out a 25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 15-25, 15-12 victory. Cal State LA dropped a close battle in the third set, but rallied impressively to take the fourth set. The Golden Eagles opened up a 15-5 lead, eventually taking a 24-13 lead on an ace by Linder and then quickly ending the set.
The Golden Eagles took an 8-5 lead in the fifth set, but Regis rebounded by scoring four straight points to take the lead. A kill by Grova tied it at 9-9, a Landers kill made it 11-11 and the Golden Eagles tied it for a final time at 12-12. Regis, though, scored the final three points to take the match.
