LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's baseball team saw its struggles continue Saturday night against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Golden Eagles fell behind early and managed only one hit in a disappointing 13-0 loss to the Toros in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game at Reeder Field. Cal State LA (4-10, 3-7) lost its sixth straight game and second straight to Cal State Dominguez Hills (7-9, 6-4 CCAA).
Nothing went right for the Golden Eagles, who surrendered 16 hits and 13 walks to the Toros, including a pair of home runs to Nick Henry and one to Aaron Greenfield. Harper finished the game with seven runs batted in. Cal State LA also committed three errors and managed only a one-out single in the third from
Jordan Myrow against a pair of Cal State Dominguez Hills pitchers. Dylan Steen allowed only the one hit and one walk over seven shutout innings while striking out seven. Kodi Koorndyk struck out five of the six batters he faced in the final two innings.
Garrett Boyce started for the Golden Eagles and gave up nine hits and seven runs over four innings. He walked five batters in the first, but did a great job by getting out of the inning with only one run allowed. The Toros, though, scored three times in the second and three more times in the fourth inning to take command.
Jeff Zordani worked out of a bases-loaded jam in a scoreless sixth inning and
Noe Garcia retired the only two batters he faced while getting the Golden Eagles out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth.
Cal State LA will complete the four-game series with the Toros in a doubleheader at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
