Golden Eagles Fall In Season Finale At Stanislaus

TURLOCK -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team wrapped up its 2018-19 season with a California Collegiate Athletic Association loss at Stanislaus State.

The Golden Eagles had turnover troubles, especially in the first half, and fell to the Warriors, 66-54, in Ed and Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena. Cal State LA (9-17, 6-16 CCAA) settled for a season split with Stanislaus State (9-16, 8-13).

Christine Delapina led the Golden Eagles with 15 points and seven assists, while Chiderah Uzowuru had 13 points and six rebounds.

Kyanna Davis led four Warriors in double figures with 19 points.

Mackenzie Barnes had nine points for the Golden Eagles.

Cal State LA shot just 35.8 percent overall (19-of-53) and was just 2-of-10 from 3-point range. Stanislaus State shot 43.1 percent (28-of-65) and was just 2-of-17 from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles were 14-of-20 from the free-throw line, while the Warriors were 8-of-14.

The Golden Eagles were out-rebounded, 33-31, and committed 21 turnovers to 13 for the Warriors.

Cal State LA surrendered the first four points of the game and never caught up. Rachael DiRegolo got the Golden Eagles on the board with a basket and back-to-back layups by Barnes kept the Golden Eagles within two points at 8-6 and 10-8. A basket by Kassie Krueger kept the margin at 12-10 and back-to-back baskets by Jo Ana Adams kept the Golden Eagles close.

The Golden Eagles trailed 20-14 after one period, but managed only seven points in the second period. A 3-pointer by Alyssa Fisher made it 31-21 with 4:55 remaining in the second quarter, but the Golden Eagles didn't score again and trailed 33-21 at halftime.

DiRegolo opened the third quarter with a basket to make it 33-23, but the Golden Eagles were outscored, 18-12, in the period and trailed 51-33 entering the fourth quarter.

A basket by Uzowuru pulled the Golden Eagles within 56-43 with six minutes to go, but that's as close as the Golden Eagles would get.

Delapina, Uzowuru and Krueger all played their final games for the Golden Eagles. They were honored last week on Senior Day.
