Golden Eagles Come Up Short On Senior Day

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team had a big finish to Saturday's California Collegiate Athletic Association game against Humboldt State, but simply had to far to climb.

The Golden Eagles had an 18-6 edge in the fourth quarter, but Humboldt State was too much in a 71-63 decision in University Gym. Cal State LA (9-16, 6-15 CCAA) trailed by as many as 23 points late in the third period before its spirited fourth-quarter surge.

Christine Delapina, one of three seniors honored in pregame ceremonies, had an outstanding game with a career-high 23 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Alyssa Fisher had 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Tyra Turner had a triple-double for Humboldt State (17-5, 15-5 CCAA), which is third in the CCAA and will be hosting a first-round CCAA Tournament game. Isamar Conde had 23 points and five rebounds.

Chiderah Uzowuru had nine points and seven rebounds for the Golden Eagles, while Mackenzie Barnes had six points, three rebounds and two blocks.

The Golden Eagles scored the opening basket of the game by Uzowuru, but the 'Jacks got a 3-pointer by Conde and a layup from Turner and led the rest of the way. The 'Jacks led by as many as 11 points in the opening period before a basket by Rebeccah DiRegolo made it 20-11 after one quarter.

The Golden Eagles fell behind by as many as 19 points in the second period before baskets by Delapina and Jolene Robinson made it 40-25. The Golden Eagles trailed at halftime, 42-25.

Cal State LA got to within 12 points midway through the third period after a three-point play by Kassie Krueger and a basket by Robinson, but the 'Jacks surged to a 65-42 before a 3-pointer by Fisher made it 65-45 after three quarters.

The Golden Eagles scored the final 10 points of the game, eight of them coming from Delapina and two from Uzowuru.

Cal State LA honored its three seniors - Christine Delapina, Chiderah Uzowuru and Kassie Krueger in pregame ceremonies.

Cal State LA will conclude its season with a road game at Stanislaus State on Thursday.
