Golden Eagles Battle In Loss At Dominguez

CARSON -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team had the beginnings of a promising rally to open the fourth period, but the Golden Eagles were unable to make it last.

A 3-pointer by Christine Delapina to open the final period sliced the deficit to six points, but Cal State Dominguez Hills responded by scoring the next six points and went on to beat the Golden Eagles, 80-63, in a California Collegiate Athletic Associate game in the Torodome. Cal State LA (6-11, 3-10 CCAA) lost its eighth straight decision, while Cal State Dominguez Hills (9-9, 5-7 CCAA) earned a season split with the Golden Eagles.

Chiderah Uzowuru had a team-high 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Golden Eagles, while Rachael DiRegolo had 11 points, four rebounds and three blocked shots.

Nautica Morrow had a game-high 24 points for the Toros, while Lea Anderson had 18 points and six rebounds.

Alyssa Fisher and Mackenzie Barnes had eight points each for the Golden Eagles, while Jo Ana Adams and Madison Adams had six points each.

Cal State LA shot 44.2 percent (23-of-52) for the game and made 5-of-11 from 3-point range, while Cal State Dominguez Hills shot 39.5 percent (32-of-81) and made 10-of-31 from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles were 12-of-21 from the free-throw line, while the Toros were 6-of-17. The Toros, though, had an overwhelming 59-28 rebounding edge that led to them taking 29 more shots from the field than the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles led by as many as four points in the first half after three straight points by Jo Ana Adams made it 29-25 with 1:52 remaining in the second quarter. The Toros, though, closed the half on an 11-2 run to take a 36-31 halftime lead.

The Golden Eagles closed to within 36-35 early in the third period after baskets by Rachael DiRegolo and Barnes, but the Toros led by as many as 15 points later in the period before a layup by Fisher made it 54-45 heading into the final period.

A 3-pointer by Delapina made it 54-48, but the Toros got four offensive rebounds on their next possession and eventually scored to start a 6-0 run that re-established a 12-point lead. Cal State LA sliced it to nine points, 62-53, after a 3-pointer by Madison Adams, but that's as close as the Golden Eagles could get.

Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday with a road game at San Francisco State.
