Golden Eagles Bounce Back With A Shutout Win

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team bounced back nicely on Wednesday after a disappointing weekend in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

The Golden Eagles snapped a two-game losing streak and blanked Cal State Dominguez Hills, 2-0, at University Stadium. Cal State LA (5-3-1, 2-2-1 CCAA) scored both of its goals in the first half and then kept the Toros (1-5-2, 1-3-1 CCAA) at bay for the remainder of the game. Adriana Maldonado made six saves to record her fourth shutout of the season and program-record 25th of her outstanding Cal State LA career.

Ashtyn Bracamonte and Anahie Duran were the goal-scorers for the Golden Eagles, while Paulina Chaidez and Tatiana Zuvic had assists.

Cal State Dominguez Hills goalkeeper Ruth-Maria Soto made eight saves for the Toros.

Cal State Dominguez Hills had a 15-12 advantage in shots and both teams had two corner kicks each.

Madison Mader had the game's first golden scoring opportunity after she connected with a cross from Chaidez, but her shot hit the crossbar and stayed out, keeping the game scoreless.

The Golden Eagles broke through in the 20th minute with a brilliant offensive sequence that ended with Bracamonte's team-leading third goal of the season. Zuvic got the ball nicely to Chaidez, who made a quick pass to Bracamonte, who was able to chip it over the goalie and into an empty net.

Duran made it 2-0 after getting fouled in the box and then expertly converting the ensuing penalty kick in the 45th minute.

Cal State LA's defense took it from there and limited the Toros to mostly long-distance attempts in the final 45 minutes.

Zuvic had a team-high four shots in the contest, while Bracamonte and Mader had two each.

Cal State LA will return to action with a road game on Friday at San Francisco State.
