ARCATA -- Cal State LA's women's volleyball team completed another successful conference road trip with a three-set win over Humboldt State on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles swept past the 'Jacks, 25-22, 25-17, 25-16 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association contest at Humboldt State. Cal State LA (18-1, 10-1 CCAA) pulled to within one-half game of Cal State San Bernardino in the CCAA South Division.
Karla Santos had a match-high 16 kills, 12 digs and two service aces, while
Daisy Crenshaw had 10 kills and
Daisia LaBrie had nine kills.
Kelsey Molnar had 38 set assists and five digs, while
Jeshmarie Suarez had 12 digs and
Alejandra Negron had six kills, two aces and seven digs.
Cal State LA had a 45-27 edge in kills and hit at a .330 percentage to .134 for Humboldt State (3-16, 0-11 CCAA). The Golden Eagles had a 7-1 advantage in service aces.
The Golden Eagles trailed early in the opening set, the final time at 16-15. A kill by Santos, two straight attack errors and an ace from
Caitlyn Bato gave the Golden Eagles a 19-16 edge. A kill by Crenshaw got the Golden Eagles to set point at 24-19 and, after the 'Jacks scored three straight points, a service error ended the frame.
Cal State LA led from start to finish in the second set, jumping out to a 7-3 lead and, after back-to-back kills by Santos, extending the lead to 11-5. A LaBrie kill and an ace from Negron gave the Golden Eagles a 21-13 advantage. A kill by LaBrie and a block by Crenshaw and Negron eventually ended the set.
The Golden Eagles trailed early in the third set, 9-6, but a kill by LaBrie, a block by Molnar and LaBrie, an attack error, a kill by Santos and a bad set fueled a 5-0 Cal State LA run and the Golden Eagles led the rest of the way. A kill by Negron pushed the lead to 20-13 and, a Negron ace, a Negron kill and an attack error completed the win.
Cal State LA will return to action next Friday against Chico State on a special Spirit Game with festivities beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the match beginning at 7 p.m.
