LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's basketball team fell one rebound short of what would have been a tremendous comeback.
Â
The Golden Eagles whittled a 19-point deficit down to just three points and forced a missed shot on defense, but Concordia chased down the rebound and went on to a 75-67 win Tuesday night in University Gym. Cal State LA (1-1) struggled from the outside for most of Tuesday's game and also missed some opportunities at the free-throw line.

Geoffrey Frid had 10 points and seven blocks.
Â
Brian Chambers led four Concordia players in double figures with 14 points. Justin Davis added 13 points, Mike Mellinger had 12 points and six rebounds and Tad Dufelmeier had 11 points and three assists.
Â
Cal State LA shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57), but made only 5-of-23 from 3-point range. Concordia shot 42.9 percent (27-of-64) and made 8-of-24 from 3-point distance. Cal State LA was 12-of-19 from the free-throw line, while Concordia was 13-of-17.

Â
A 3-pointer by Billingsley gave the Golden Eagles an early 13-10 lead, but Concordia scored the next 10 points and led the rest of the way. The Eagles led by as many as 13 points in the first half before Cal State LA got a late basket from Billingsley and a tip-in at the buzzer by Evans-Taylor to make it 40-34 at halftime.
Â
Concordia built its biggest lead of the night at 66-47 with 9:47 to go, but the Golden Eagles fought back and eventually made it a one-possession game. Frid made a dunk of a nice pass from Hammonds and Wilson hit a 3-pointer to get the Golden Eagles back into the contest.

Miles Ford hit free throws and Wilson hit another 3-pointer to make it 70-67 with 1:16 to go. Cal State LA played some great defense on Concordia's next possession, but Brian Chambers ran down a batted rebound after a missed shot and the Golden Eagles were forced to foul. Dufelmeier hit a pair of free throws to extend the lead to 72-67 with 34 seconds to go.
Â
Three more free throws by Concordia accounted for the final margin.
Â
