Golden Eagles Drop Regular-Season Finale

SANTA ROSA -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team, with an eye toward the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament, concluded its regular season with a 3-0 loss at No. 20 Sonoma State.

The Golden Eagles (6-8-3, 5-6-1 CCAA) will enter the conference tournament on Tuesday as the No. 6 seed and will play at No. 3 Cal State San Bernardino at 3 p.m. The Golden Eagles finished the conference schedule with 16 points, while the Coyotes wound up with 23 points after a 0-0 tie with Cal State San Marcos. The other first-round game on Tuesday will feature No. 5 seed Stanislaus State at No. 4 Cal Poly Pomona. Regular-season champion UC San Diego and Sonoma State earned first-round byes.

The Golden Eagles will look to hit the reset button on Tuesday. After starting the conference schedule with a 5-0 record, the Golden Eagles were winless over their final seven games.

Cal State LA got a strong performance on Saturday from goalkeeper Adrianna Salazar, who made seven saves in her first career start at Cal State LA. The junior college All-American from Cerritos College made seven saves in the game.

The Golden Eagles were outshot, 21-7, including 12-4 in the second half. Cal State LA had an 8-2 edge in corner kicks, but was unable to convert any into goals.

Jennifer Torres had a pair of shots, both on goal, while Xochitl Estrada had two shots, one on goal, for the Golden Eagles. Micaela Estrada, Adyson Willett and Jessica Edwards also had shots for Cal State LA.
