LA JOLLA -- Cal State LA men's soccer team came up short in a battle of nationally-ranked teams Friday night at UC San Diego.
The No. 12 Golden Eagles surrendered a rebound goal in the 35th minute and the No. 21 Tritons made it stand up for a 1-0 victory in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game. Cal State LA (7-2-3, 5-2 CCAA) dropped its second conference game, while UC San Diego (10-1-2, 5-1-1 CCAA) remained unbeaten at home and jumped ahead of the Golden Eagles by one point and into a share of the CCAA lead.
Dan Arnoll had a season-high nine saves for Cal State LA. He made four saves in the first half and five in the second period.
Cal State LA was outshot, 16-9, including 7-2 in the first half. The Golden Eagles had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks, but were unable to convert any of their scoring chances into goals.
UC San Diego got the only goal of the game in the 35th minute. Riley Harbour notched his third goal of the season when he got to a rebound and tucked it in from close range. Jeff Powers had the assist.
Samuel Croucher had two shots, both on goal, for the Golden Eagles.
Tim Eiben had the other shot on goal for Cal State LA.
Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a game at Cal State San Marcos beginning at 2 p.m.
