Golden Eagles Bid Aloha To Hawaii With 2-1 Win

Box Score HILO, HI -- Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team wrapped up a successful trip to Hawaii with a second important NCAA Division II victory.

The Golden Eagles got a pair of second-half goals from Shea Richards to erase a 1-0 deficit and beat BYU-Hawaii, 2-1, Saturday at the University of Hawaii-Hilo. Cal State L.A. (2-0) won for the second straight time in Hawaii after opening their 2014 season with a 2-0 win over Hawaii-Hilo on Thursday.

Cal State L.A. enjoyed a 15-2 advantage in shots for the game and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks, yet the Golden Eagles found themselves trailing, 1-0, before Richards saved the day. Richards scored her first goal of the season to tie the game in the 71st minute with an assist from Shelby Nieto and less than three minutes later she took a pass from Amalia Arvidsson and scored again for the game-winner.

"We kept our composure and we continued to play our game," Cal State L.A. head coach Isabelle Harvey said. "It was a good trip for us. It's not easy to win here and we did a nice job."

The Golden Eagles held BYU-Hawaii without a shot in the first half and had a 9-0 advantage in shots by halftime. They found themselves behind, though, when BYU-Hawaii's Tess Hobbs scored just 1:04 into the second half with an assist from Brittney Dyer.

Cal State L.A. continued to pressure BYU-Hawaii, but couldn't get one past BYU-Hawaii goalkeeper Makenna Seymour until Richards notched her back-to-back goals to give the Golden Eagles the lead.

Yi Du made one save in goal for the Golden Eagles.

Cal State L.A. will return to action next Thursday in its home opener against Point Loma at 5 p.m.
