Game Replay

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A.'s women's basketball team saw another late lead disappear Friday night in its 2014-15 home opener.

The Golden Eagles, who couldn't hold a 17-point lead against Azusa Pacific in Azusa earlier this week, saw Concordia University storm back from a 12-point deficit in the final seven minutes to post a 72-68 win in the Eagles Nest. Cal State L.A. (0-2) had a 58-46 lead with seven minutes to go, but managed only 10 points the rest of the way.

Kaija Powell had 14 points and four rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles, while Franeka Hall added 12 points.

Janae Peterson had a game-high 24 points for Concordia (4-1), while September Offutt had 14 points and Jasmine Crawford had 13 points.

Samantha Lee and Ali Orlich had nine points each for the Golden Eagles, while Bree Parsons had eight points.

Cal State L.A. was hampered by foul trouble throughout the game and committed 34 fouls. The Golden Eagles were 25-of-64 (39.1 percent) from the floor, while Concordia was 16-of-57 (28.1 percent). The Golden Eagles were just 6-of-27 from 3-point range, while the Eagles were 4-of-19. Cal State L.A. was just 12-of-23 from the free-throw line, while Concordia was 36-of-53.

Concordia had a 51-47 rebounding edge.

The Golden Eagles took a 33-31 halftime lead after a late 3-pointer by Lee and Shanice Jackson opened the second half with a 3-pointer to give Cal State L.A. a 36-31 lead. Concordia surged to a 43-38 lead, but a layup by Powell and a 3-pointer by Hall started an 11-0 run that gave the Golden Eagles a 49-43 lead. After Hall's 3-pointer tied it, back-to-back layups by Hall and a layup by Geena Greene gave the Golden Eagles a six-point lead.

A 3-pointer by Orlich boosted the lead to 54-44, a Powell basket made it 56-44 and a layup by Orlich made it 58-44 with 7:08 to go.

A layup by Powell kept the lead at eight points, 64-56, but the Eagles scored the next six points to get close. A free throw and a layup by Shanice Jackson put the Golden Eagles ahead, 67-64, with 1:52 to go, but Concordia scored the next six points to take the lead. Trailing 70-67, Orlich hit one free throw and missed the second with two seconds remaining. Aiwekhoe Okungbowa, who led the Golden Eagles with 10 rebounds, got the miss, but was unable to tie the game. Concordia then hit two free throws to put the game away.

Cal State L.A. will return to action next Friday when it hosts the Thanksgiving Classic. The Golden Eagles will face Point Loma in the second game of the day at 4 p.m.
