Golden Eagles Sweep Past CS Dominguez Hills In Three

Box Score CARSON -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team got a busy week off to a strong start Wednesday in the Torodome.

The Golden Eagles fought off a set point in the opening frame and went on to a 27-25, 25-14, 25-21 over Cal State Dominguez Hills in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match. Cal State L.A. (8-5, 3-2 CCAA) snapped a two-match losing streak and won for the third time in three conference road matches.

Iona Lofrano continued her outstanding play with 12 kills and a .429 hitting percentage, while Bethanee Boggs had eight kills and two blocks. Alexandra Bura had seven kills and 22 set assists.

Alijah Gunsaulus had 12 kills to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills (7-6, 0-5 CCAA).

Cal State L.A. had a 48-33 advantage in kills and hit at a .307 percentage to just .114 for the Toros.

The Golden Eagles almost let a first-set lead slip away before rallying to score the last three points. The Golden Eagles had a set point at 24-23 after a kill by Lofrano, but a service error made it 24-24 and Cal State L.A. had to stave off a set point at 25-24 with another kill by Lofrano. After a Cal State Dominguez Hills attack error, the Golden Eagles won the set on a block by JamieAnn Bero and Lauren Gomez.

The Golden Eagles led for most of the second set to take control of the match. A kill by Bura and a Cal State Dominguez Hills attack error gave the Golden Eagles a 20-11 lead. A block by Bero and Gomez gave the Golden Eagles a 23-14 edge and a kill by Kymberly Silveyra and a Cal State Dominguez Hills attack error ended the set.

The third set was hard-fought and the Golden Eagles trailed as late as 19-17. A kill by Bura, two straight Cal State Dominguez Hills attack errors, a kill by Boggs and a kill by Molly Lyons gave the Golden Eagles a 22-19 lead and they led the rest of the way. A Boggs kill made it 23-20, a kill by Loreal Carter got the Golden Eagles to match point at 24-21 and a Cal State Dominguez Hills attack error ended the contest.

Cal State L.A. will return home to host Cal State Monterey Bay in the Eagles Nest on Friday at 7 p.m.
