CARSON -- Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team suffered the same result Sunday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association contest that it did on Friday.
For the second straight game, the Golden Eagles surrendered a goal in the third minute and it cost them a tough-luck 1-0 defeat. On Sunday, Cal State Dominguez Hills jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back. This came just two days after the Golden Eagles allowed a goal in the third minute and fell to UC San Diego, also by a 1-0 count.
Cal State L.A. (2-2, 0-2 CCAA), ranked 11th in the nation by the NSCAA, had an advantage in shots for a second straight game, this time by a 13-9 count, but the Golden Eagles were unable to get one past Cal State Dominguez Hills goalie Tiffany Hollis. Cal State Dominguez Hills (4-0, 2-0 CCAA) remained undefeated and posted its second straight shutout.
The two teams combined for 17 corner kicks, nine for the Golden Eagles and eight for the Toros, but none were converted into scores.
Jessica Murphy had the only goal of the game, knocking a shot from inside the box off the crossbar and into the goal. Niki Poole and Taylor Canatsey had the assists.
Hollis made eight saves for the Toros, while
Jessie Walworth made six saves for the Golden Eagles.
Janet Mendez had four shots to lead the Golden Eagles.
Ayana Younge and
Gabbi Segall had two shots each.
Cal State L.A. will return to action next Friday with a home game against CCAA North Division leader Cal State Stanislaus.
