#15 Golden Eagles Post Shutout Win Over San Francisco St.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Cal State L.A.'s men's soccer team made sure its trip to San Francisco would be a successful one.

The Golden Eagles got a pair of goals from Jason Swope and one from Jordan Payne and went on to beat San Francisco State, 3-0, Sunday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association contest. Cal State L.A. scored once in the first half and twice in the second half and rode a strong defensive effort to victory.

Cal State L.A. (6-1-3, 4-1-3), ranked 15th in the nation, pulled to within one point of the CCAA South Division lead. San Francisco State (4-4-2, 3-4-1 CCAA) dropped its second straight decision.

San Francisco State had a 21-16 advantage in shots and a big 11-2 edge in corner kicks. The Gators, though, were unable to get one past Cal State L.A. goalkeeper Waleed Cassis, who made six saves. The Golden Eagles were also credited with a team save. All seven saves came in the second half. San Francisco State had an 11-9 edge in shots in the first half, but none were on goal. Eric Scolman made six saves for the Gators. 

Swope opened the scoring in the 25th minute. He took a pass from Taylor Rivas and lifted a shot over Scolman for the score.

The Golden Eagles took the 1-0 lead into halftime and then scored again in the opening minute of the second half to make it 2-0. Payne shot from 18 yards out after a pass from Antti Arvola for his first goal of the season.

Swope concluded the scoring in the 86th minute when he went in on a breakaway and converted for his second goal of the game and fifth of the season. He now shares the team goal-scoring lead with Rosario Bras. Swope now has the team lead in points with 13.

Swope and Timo Schwar had four shots each for the Golden Eagles.

Cal State L.A. will return to action next Friday with a game at Sonoma State.
