Box Score

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team notched its fifth consecutive victory and maintained its slim lead in the California Collegiate Athletic Association South Division.

The Golden Eagles got a hat trick from Ann Marie Tangorra and another goal from Liz Franco and beat Cal State San Bernardino, 4-1, Friday night at Jesse Owens Stadium in the Billie Jean King Sports Complex. Cal State L.A. (13-3, 12-3 CCAA), which has already punched its ticket to the CCAA Championship Tournament, leads UC San Diego by one point in the South Division with one match remaining.

Cal State L.A. is the defending CCAA champions.

The Golden Eagles were in control for most of the match, but Cal State San Bernardino (9-7-1, 7-7-1 CCAA) tied things up in the 15th minute on a goal by Jani Carmona. Tangorra, though, gave the Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead about 12 minutes later and they never looked back.

Cal State L.A. got goals from Franco and Tangorra in a one-minute span of the second half to put the game out of reach.

Cal State L.A. had a 16-3 advantage in shots. Gabriela Batmani made one save in goal for the Golden Eagles, while Tiffany Mallick had three saves for the Coyotes.

Tangorra opened the scoring just 10:57 into the game. Stacey Rodwell got the ball to Franco, who passed to Tangorra on the right side of the field. Tangorra drilled a beautiful shot just inside the far post for the first of her three goals on the night.

Carmona tied it with her 13th goal of the season off a free kick that hit the crossbar and went in just four minutes later.

The Golden Eagles regained the lead in the 28th minute when Tangorra accepted a through pass from Lisa Ohberg, beat an onrushing Mallick to the ball and lofted it over the Cal State San Bernardino goalkeeper and into the goal.

Franco gave the Golden Eagles some breathing room with another spectacular goal in the 65th minute. She took a pass from Ohberg and rifled a blast from an angle inside the far post for her 10th goal of the season.

Tangorra then completed her first career hat trick just a little more than one minute later when she got a pass from Stacey Rodwell and scored her 13th goal of the season. The 13 goals tie the Cal State L.A. single-season record held by Franco and Kristy Contreras.

Cal State L.A. will conclude its regular season on Sunday with a home match against Cal Poly Pomona.
