CARSON – Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team got off to a tough start against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday and never recovered.
Cal State Dominguez Hills scored three goals in the first 30 minutes of the game and went on to a 3-0 win over Cal State L.A. Friday at Toro Stadium. Cal State L.A. (6-2, 3-2) had picked up a win earlier in the day when California Collegiate Athletic Association opponent Sonoma State announced it had to forfeit an earlier 1-0 win over the Golden Eagles.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-1-3, 3-1-2) posted its third consecutive shutout.
Cal State L.A. surrendered a season-high three goals in the loss. The Golden Eagles had allowed more than one goal only once prior to Friday's game.
Kelly Matosian put the Toros on the board just 6:29 into the game when she took a pass from Yvonne Vasquez and knocked a shot into the upper portion of the goal.
Cassie McKay made it 2-0 when she headed in a cross from Vasquez in the 13th minute. Vasquez picked up her third assist just 17 minutes later when she set up Matosian's second goal of the game.
Vanessa Suarez came on in goal in the second half for the Golden Eagles and made four saves.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Sunday with a road match at No. 2 UC San Diego.
