Kathleen Luft

A talented coach with an extraordinary background in indoor and beach volleyball, Kathleen Luft returns as an assistant coach for Cal State LA women’s volleyball program. She will begin her second season with the Golden Eagles’ indoor team after serving as an assistant coach for Cal State LA’s inaugural beach team for the past two springs.

After playing professionally overseas, Luft worked as a project manager for a sports facility called Sports Academy while coaching high school beach volleyball at Thousand Oaks High School and indoor club volleyball. She has an extensive background in club volleyball and has travelled the country coaching at camps. Luft has also coached in junior leagues overseas.

Luft completed a successful NCAA Division I playing career with Loyola Marymount, trained with the USA Women’s National Team and competed for Team USA in the 2014 World Cup Qualifier. She finished her career in 2016 after playing professionally for two years in Switzerland and France.

She earned first-team All-West Coast Conference honors in each of her two seasons at Loyola Marymount and averaged 4.06 kills per set. She recorded 806 kills in her two years with the Lions.

Luft transferred to Loyola Marymount after three years at the University of Georgia. After using a medical redshirt year as a freshman, she had 556 kills and led or shared the team lead in kills 23 times over the next two seasons. She was on the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll and was named to the Director’s Honor Roll for her hard work in the classroom.

She was a high school star at Thousand Oaks High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner and was named the school’s Most Valuable Athlete as a senior.

Luft earned her bachelor’s degree in communications studies at Loyola Marymount.
