Biography

2019: Competed for a second season with the track and field team in the spring in his final year with the program. Had best times of 4:43.71 in the 1,500 meters at the Occidental Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic on March 9, 10:41.31 in the 3,000 at the Redlands Invitational on March 15 and 12:09.41 in the 3,000 steeplechase at the Cerritos College Invitational on April 12. For his career, had best times of 4:43.71 in the 1,500, 10:22.44 in the 3,000, 12:09.41 in the 3,000 steeplechase and 18:31.10 in the 5,000.

2018: Returned to competition with the track and field team in the spring. Had best times of 10:22.44 in the 3,000 meters and 18:31.10 in the 5,000. Also competed in eight meets for the cross country team in his final year with the program in the fall. Had a best time of 31:40.4 over 8,000 meters at the Coyote Classic. Finished 84th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with a time of 32:02.9 over 8,000 meters. Finished 169th at the NCAA Division II West Region Championships with a time of 39:46.4 over 10,000 meters.

2017: Was on Cal State LA’s cross country roster, but did not compete in any races.

2016: Joined Cal State LA’s cross country program and competed in five races. Finished 81st in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with a time of 28:56.3 over 8,000 meters. Wound up 162nd in the NCAA West Regionals with a time of 35:49.36 over 10.000 meters.

At Cerritos College: Finished 53rd in the South Coast Conference as a sophomore. Competed for L.A. Trade Tech College as a freshman.

At Schurr High School: Received the school’s Spartan Award for cross country in 2013 and the Coach’s Award in 2014 for track and field. Won the league championship in the 3,200 meters.

Personal: Son of Jose and Victoria Pina. Majoring in exercise science. Enjoys running and playing the ukulele. Lists winning the 3,200 race for the Almont League championship to qualify for CIF in 2014 as his most exciting experience in sports.
