Joe Gordon returns for his seventh season with the Cal State L.A. baseball program in 2017 as the infield and hitting coach.
 
The highlight of his tenure so far came in 2013 when Gordon helped the Golden Eagles capture their first-ever CCAA Championship Tournament title and reach the NCAA playoffs for the first time since 2007. Cal State L.A. posted an overall record of 35-22 and had a 28-12 mark in conference play.
 
This included the team leading the conference in most offensive categories including, runs scored (393), RBI’s (351), hits (601), home runs (33), doubles (130), slugging (.434) and 2nd in batting average (.305).
 
He also helped the Golden Eagles to a successful 2015 season when Cal State LA won 12 more games than it did in 2014 and was one of the most improved teams in the NCAA Division II. Cal State L.A. finished with a 28-20 overall record and a 23-17 mark in the CCAA and the team’s batting average rose from .262 to .298 as the Golden Eagles scored 59 more runs than in 2014.
 
In 2012, Gordon also helped the Golden Eagles to a 26-22 overall record and a 21-17 mark in CCAA play. In his first year with the program, the Golden Eagles were 27-23 overall and 21-19 mark in conference play.
 
Gordon was the head coach at Simi Valley from 1998-2003 and coached several players who went on to professional careers, including Jered Weaver of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Bryan Anderson of the Oakland A’s.
 
He was an All-State and All-CIF player at Simi Valley High School. Gordon also played at Cal Lutheran University and helped the team reach the Division III World Series.  Prior to that, he also played at UCLA when Cal State L.A. Head Coach Vince Beringhele was on the coaching staff. He also played three years of professional baseball in the Prairie and Northern Leagues.
 
Gordon earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from George Fox University and his Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Cal Lutheran.
 
He currently resides in Moorpark with his wife Julie, daughter Pressley and sons, Gunner and Bront.
