A talented coach with an NCAA Division I background, Alex DeAngelis returns for his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Cal State LA baseball program. DeAngelis is the pitching coach and also is instrumental in game preparation and the academic progress of the student-athletes.
DeAngelis did an admirable job holding together the pitching staff in the shortened 2020 season. The staff was highlighted by Saxon Andross, who earned California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Star recognition after leading the team in victories. Another highlight was the development of freshman pitcher Fino Amador, who was having a tremendous start to his career before the season was halted after 20 games.
DeAngelis also did fine work with an injury-ravaged pitching staff in 2019. The Golden Eagles stayed in contention for a spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association until the final weekend and were led by dual threat Alec Daily, who earned first-team All-CCAA honors as a utility player after starring at the plate and on the mound. Daily also earned All-West Regions.
DeAngelis joined the program in 2018 and helped the Golden Eagles achieve a 28-24 record and earn their way into the CCAA Tournament. Cal State LA was ranked seventh in the West Region at the end of the year and left-hander Joey Deceglie earned All-CCAA honors.

DeAngelis came to Cal State LA after spending two seasons at Washington State, where he was a volunteer assistant coach for one season and an undergraduate manager for a season. He joined Washington State after spending two seasons at Saint Martin’s University, where he was a pitching coach and helped the Saints reach the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship Tournament for the first year in program history in 2014.
DeAngelis had previously coached the pitchers at South Eugene High School in Eugene, Ore. during the 2010-11 seasons.
Â
He played for two seasons at George Fox University in 2005-2006 and helped the Bruins to a runner-up finish in the 2005 NCAA Division III West Regional.
Â
DeAngelis attended Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, Ore. and earned All-Valley League honors twice, including first-team accolades as a catcher in 2003. He also pitched for the Corvallis American Legion team that finished third in the 2003 American Legion World Series in Bartlesville, Okla.
Â
De Angelis earned his bachelor’s degree in humanities from Washington State in 2017.
