Biography

2024-25: Had another outstanding season for the Golden Eagles in the final year of her record-setting career. Competed in 11 tournaments and a total of 28 rounds. Had a scoring average of 75.32. Earned first-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors for a fourth time. Had a national ranking of 94. Had another consistent season with five top-10 finishes, including two top-five finishes and four in the top six. Matched her low round of 68 at the National Preview on Oct. 7-8 and finished in a tie for sixth after rounds of 68-72-68 for a total of 208. Finished tied for second at the LA Spring Kickoff on Feb. 3-4 after rounds of 74-70 for a total of 144, which was her best of the season. Finished in a tie for thirdf at the Swan Memorial after rounds of 72 and 73 for a total of 145. Was named CCAA Golfer of the Week for the third time in her career. Finished in a tie for 16th at the CCAA Championships after rounds of 83-75-81 for a total of 239 and had the lead during the final round before finishing in a tie for 10th at the NCAA West Regional after rounds of 74-68-78. The 68 matched the low round of her career. Made school history by becoming the first four-time Academic All-American from the College Sports Communicators. Earned third-team Academic All-America honors in 2025. Earned 2024-25 Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar honors as well. Was Cal State LA’s recipient of the 2024-25 Dr. Hal Charnofsky Award, an award presented by the CCAA for exemplary commitment to athletic and academic pursuits. Also earned a 2024-25 D2 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award and 2024-25 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition. For her career, competed in 47 tournaments and 108 rounds. Had a scoring average of 75.55. Won third tournaments, finished in the top-five 14 times and had 21 top-10 finishes.

2023-24: Had another tremendous season for the Golden Eagles and was once again a nationally-ranked golfer. Finished the season ranked 73rd in the nation. Earned first-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors for a third time. Won her third career tournament when she claimed the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on Feb. 26-27 with rounds of 68 and 71 for a new program-record 139 over 36 holes on Feb. 26-27. Was named the CCAA Golfer of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 21-27. That tournament was the peak of three consecutive top-five finishes. Finished tied for fifth at the HPU Sharks Shootout on Oct. 23-24 with rounds of 69 and 75 for a 144 total and tied for fourth at the Dennis Rose Invitational on Oct. 27-28 with rounds of 74 and 69 for a total of 143. Finished 14th at the CCAA Championships after consecutive rounds of 76, 76, 76 for a 228 total and was 45th at the NCAA West Regionals after rounds of 72, 78 and 79 for a 229 total. Made school history by becoming the first three-time Academic All-American from the College Sports Communicators. Earned first-team Academic All-America honors in 2024. Won the CCAA Elite 13 Award for a third straight year for holding the top grade point average at the championship site. Earned 2023-24 Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar honors as well as 2023-24 CCAA All-Academic honors and 2024 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition. Also earned a 2023-24 D2 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.

2022-23: Had another sensational season for the Golden Eagles and was once again one of the best golfers in the nation. Finished the season ranked 54th in the nation by Golfstat. Became the only CCAA golfer to earn All-Tournament honors for a second straight year after finishing fifth in defense of her 2022 championship. Also earned first-team All-CCAA honors for a second straight year. Qualified for the NCAA West Regional for a second straight season. Placed in a tie for 24th that included her low round of the season, 70, on the final day. Finished the tournament with a score of 221 after rounds of 72-79-70. Recorded five top-10 finishes during the season. Won the second tournament of her career by roaring back to take the Sonoma State Fall Invitational on Oct. 3-4 with a total of 149 following rounds of 76-73. Began the tournament with a double-bogey on the first hole. Finished in a tie for third at the Bay Area Invitational after a 73 in the rain-shortened tournament on Feb. 20. Finished in a tie for 10th at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational on March 6-7 after rounds of 73-80 for a total of 153. Was also tied for fifth at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational on April 4-5 after a total of 152 following rounds of 76-76. Took fifth in the CCAA Championships on April 17-19 after rounds of 78-74-73 for a total of 227. Competed in 10 tournaments and 21 rounds and led the team with a scoring average of 75.28. Earned second-team Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Communicators, becoming only the second athlete in Cal State LA history to earn the award in multiple seasons. Earned Academic All-District honors for a third straight year. Won the CCAA Elite 13 Award for a second straight year for holding the top grade point average at the championship site. Also earned Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar honors and a 2022-23 D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award. Also earned 2022-23 CCAA All-Academic honors and 2023 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition.

2021-22: Had a phenomenal season for the Golden Eagles and developed into one of the best golfers in the nation. Became the first player in program history to earn All-America honors after receiving All-America honorable mention from the WGCA. Finished the season ranked 25th in the country by Golfstat. Captured the CCAA championship in a thrilling battle that saw her win the tournament on the final hole after holding the lead following both the first and second rounds. Became the first player in program history to earn a spot in the NCAA Division II West Regional and finished in a tie for 12th after rounds of 72-71-73 for a total of 216. Came within two shots of reaching nationals. Earned first-team All-CCAA honors and earned the conference’s Elite 13 Award for women’s golf for holding the top grade point average at the championship site. Competed in 11 tournaments and had an average score of 74.68, nearly five shots lower than her average as a freshman. Shot her low round of the season in the final round of the RJGA Shootout at Estrella with a 69. Finished in a tie for fourth with a 36-hole total of 144. Had outstanding academic achievements as well. Earned third-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, become the 16th student-athlete in school history to earn that award and the first from women’s golf. Also earned WGCA All-American Scholar recognition. Earned 2021-22 CCAA All-Academic honors and 2022 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition. Received Cal State LA’s Billie Jean King Award as the department’s outstanding female athlete for 2021-22.

2020-21: Earned CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 honors. Earned 2020-21 CCAA All-Academic honors and also received 2021 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition. Team did not compete due to COVID-19.

2019-20: Had a sensational first year for the Golden Eagles before the season was cut short. Earned All-CCAA honorable mention. Competed in six tournaments and a total of 12 rounds. Was second on the team with a scoring average of 79.4. Showed tremendous improvement during the season and averaged 76.5 per round in three spring tournaments. Shot the team’s low 18-hole score of 73 in a pair of tournaments. Had two top finishes in the spring. Finished in a tie for fifth with a 36-hole total of 149 at the Tim Tierney Shootout on March 2-3 and had a seventh-place finish with a total of 152 at the Point Loma Sea Lion Invitational on Feb. 3-4. Earned WGCA All-American Scholar recognition. Also earned 2019-20 CCAA All-Academic honors.

At Martin Luther King High School: Was the team Most Valuable Player as a sophomore, junior and senior. Earned All-League honors all four years in high school and All-Inland Empire Area as a junior and senior. Was a CIF individual qualifier as a sophomore, junior and senior and competed in the CIF Regional Championships and the CIF Southern Sectional Championships as a senior. Was the team’s Rookie of the Year as a freshman. Was a Scholar-Athlete all four years in high school. Competed in golf, basketball and track.

Personal: Daughter of Gregg and Ann Dena Sjoerdsma. Majoring in Mathematics. Enjoys boating, wake surfing, hiking and going to the beach. Lists winning the 2022 CCAA championship and feeling her teammates’ excitement for her, shooting a two-day total of 5-under-par to win the 2024 Tim Tierney Shootout with her lowest tournament score and a school record and finding out the team qualified for the NCAA West Regionals for the first time ever as her most exciting experiences in sports. Notes she finished her bachelor’s degree in mathematics and completed her single-subject teaching credential for mathematics in December of 2023. Says she is loving her Master’s program in educational technology and plans to be working at a high school, teaching math and coaching golf, in the very near future.
