Biography

2021: Was on the track and field roster, but team did not compete due to COVID-19 in her final year with the program. Earned California Collegiate Athletic Association 2021 Spring Academic Honor Roll recognition in track and field and CCAA 2020 Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition in cross country. Was nominated by Cal State LA for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

2020: Was off to a strong start in a shortened outdoor track and field season. Had the team's best mark in the 3,000 in outdoor track with a time of 10:21.33. Posted some promising marks in indoor track. Had the team's best times of 10:33.38 in the 3,000 meters and 18:06.62 in the 5,000 meters. Her best time in the indoor 3,000 is now No. 6 all-time at Cal State LA. Was Cal State LA’s recipient of the Dr. Hal Charnofsky Award, an award presented by the CCAA for exemplary commitment to athletic and academic pursuits. Received 2019-20 CCAA All-Academic honors and was also part of the CCAA 2020 Spring All-Academic Team.

2019: Had a sensational first season with Cal State LA’s cross country program and was the team’s No. 1 runner. Became the first Cal State LA cross country runner to win a race since 2013 by capturing the title at the Coyote Challenge on Sept. 21 with a time of 17:46.58 over 5,000 meters. Finished 17th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with a time of 22:57.86 over 6,000 meters and was 66th in the NCAA Division II West Regional with a time of 22:11.3 over 6,000 meters.  An outstanding student as well, earned a USTFCCA Scholar-Athlete Award from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for cross country for having a grade point average above a 3.25 and finishing in the top-30 percent of the West Region championships.Received 2019 CCAA Fall All-Academic Team honors. 

At Mt. San Antonio College: Was part of a state championship team in cross country in 2017. Had a personal record of 17:48 over 5,000 meters.  Was the 10,000-meter champion in 2018 and 2019 and the state runner-up in the 5,000 in track and field. Part of a state championship team in 2018. Had personal best times of 4:58 in the 1,500, 17:54 in the 5,000 and 37:23 in the 10,000.

At Glendora High School: Was the team’s Most Valuable Runner in 2016 in cross country and team finished second in state. Had personal bests of 18:38 over three miles and 19:33 over 5,000 meters. Had personal bests of 2:26 in the 800, 5:24 in the 1,600 and 11:57 in the two mile in track and field.

Personal: Daughter of Lorenzo Ruiz and Gabriela Rivas. Majoring in natural sciences. Enjoys running, art and painting, spending time with family and friends and family and relaxing. Lists winning state championships in the 10,000 and being a state champion with her cross country and track and field teams at Mt. SAC as her most exciting experiences in sports. Notes her ultimate goal is to obtain her bachelor’s degree in nursing.
