Summary

Biography

2019-20: Had a second strong season to complete his Cal State LA career. Was third on the team in scoring with 10.4 points per game. Was also second on the team in assists with 63 and second in steals with 47. Appeared in 23 games and started 17 times. Was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 11-17, 2019 after leading the Golden Eagles to wins over Azusa Pacific and Fresno Pacific. Started the week with a season-high 25-point showing at Azusa Pacific in a 90-82 win and followed that up with 22 points in an 86-83 win over Fresno Pacific. Averaged 23.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 2.5 assists for the week. Reached double figures in scoring 11 times. For his career, appeared in 52 games with 19 starts. Played a total of 1,154 minutes. Averaged 10.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game.

2018-19: Had an outstanding first season with the Golden Eagles. Was second on the team in scoring with 11.0 points per game. Appeared in 29 games and started twice. Was tremendous in two California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament games and earned All-Tournament honors. Had 21 points and scored all 11 of the Golden Eagles’ points in overtime of an 81-76 win at San Francisco State in a first-round game (3-5-19). Poured in a season-high 32 points in a four-overtime contest in the semifinals against Cal Poly Pomona (3-8-19). Also had 32 points and five assists against San Francisco State during the regular season (1-5-19). Scored 20 or more points in five games and reached double figures in 11 contests.

At Vanguard University: Appeared in 61 games and started 57 times in two years with the NAIA program. Averaged 13.0 points per game as a sophomore and 11.0 points per game as a freshman. Had a career-high 32 points in 2017 against College of Idaho.

At Bishop Alemany High School: Was named Alemany’s 2016 Athlete of the Year and also was a John R. Wooden High School Player of the Year award winner. Was a two-time Mission League Most Valuable Player and a three-time All-Mission League first team honoree. Earned Open Division first-team honors twice and was a McDonald’s All-American nominee.  Earned a Trevor Ariza Elevated Games Award and was on the Tournament of Champions All-Tournament team in 2015. Averaged 20 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals per game. Competed in basketball and track and field.

Personal: Son of Josell Dawkins. Majoring in communications. Enjoys video games, watching movies, chilling and hanging out with his girlfriend. Lists hitting a game-winning shot on Senior Night against rival Crespi to win a Mission League championship as his most exciting experience in sports. Notes he is a fun guy.
