Cal State LA Athletics

2018: Competed for a third season with Cal State LA’s cross country team in the fall. in his final year with the program Competed in seven meets for the Golden Eagles and was consistently in the top-five for the Golden Eagles. Finished 77^th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with a time of 28:48.7 over 8,000 meters and finished 161^st in the NCAA Division II West Regionals with a time of 36:35.6 over 10,000 meters. Was on the roster in track and field in the spring (2019), but did not compete in any meets in his final year with the program.

2017: Competed for Cal State LA’s cross country team for a second season. Ran in seven races. Finished 71^st in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with a time of 27:32.6 over 8,000 meters. Finished 170^th in the NCAA Division II West Regional with a time of 34:50.2 over 10,000 meters. Had a best time of 2:00.47 in the 800 meters in track and field in the spring (2018).

2016: Competed for Cal State LA’s cross country team in the fall. Ran in six races. Finished 79^th at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with a time of 28:30.5 over 8,000 meters. Wound up 156^th at the NCAA Division II West Regionals with a time of 35:49.36 over 10,000 meters. Competed for Cal State LA’s track and field team in the spring (2017) and had best times of 2:01.31 in the 800 meters and 4:22.44 in the 1,500.

At Warren High School: Earned the Most Improved Runner award. Had best times of 2:03 in the 800 meters, 4:28 in the 1,600 meters and 16:00 in the three-mile. Competed in cross country, track and field and wrestling.

Personal: Son of Ricardo and Suzette Pena. Majoring in Kinesiology. Enjoys working out, listening to music and ping pong. Lists setting a personal record in his last race at league finals in high school as his most exciting experience in sports. Ran a 4:28 in the mile.
