Cal State LA Athletics

2015: Had a second strong season cut short by injury in his final year with the program. Appeared and started all nine games he played in. Suffered a season-ending injury in the first half against UC San Diego on Oct. 4. Played a total of 766 minutes. Earned second-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors for a second straight year. An outstanding student as well, received CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 honors. Earned a CCAA Fall All-Academic Award. 

2014: Had an outstanding first season with the Golden Eagles and earned second-team All-CCAA honors. Was a key part of a Cal State L.A. defense that led the nation in goals against average and set new program records for fewest goals allowed and most shutouts. Was second on the team in minutes played with 1,934. Started in all 21 games for the Golden Eagles.

At Barry University: Appeared in 28 games over two seasons for the Bucs. Appeared in 18 games with 12 starts in 2013. Picked up two assists. Played a total of 1,211 minutes. Also appeared in 10 games for the Bucs in 2012 and picked up one point. Had an assist on a game-winning goal against Eckerd. Played a total of 733 minutes. Earned Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District honors and was a member of the Dean’s List four times and the President’s List two times. Team won the Sunshine State Conference Tournament in 2013. 

At Instituto Brasileiro de Propriedade Intelectual: Played for club team in Rio de Janeiro. Scored 22 goals with 36 assists from 2008-10.

Personal: Son of Fernando and Solange Rio Torto. Pursuing a Master’s degree in business administration. Enjoys surfing and hiking. Lists winning the West Region championship in 2014 as his most exciting experience in sports.
