LOS ANGELES -- Analise Quintero and senior Celine Gehrig scored goals as Cal State LA celebrated Senior Day with a commanding 2-0 victory over Westmont on Saturday at University Stadium.
The Golden Eagles controlled the match from the opening whistle and took the lead in the 13th minute. Luna Chavez and Maitland Kohoutek combined to set up Quintero, who found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Cal State LA continued to create opportunities throughout the opening half. Alina Valdez and Itzel Ramirez each placed shots on goal, but Westmont goalkeeper Ellie Ludwig made three saves to keep the margin at 1-0 entering halftime.
Gehrig doubled the Golden Eagles' advantage in the 58th minute. Fellow senior Itzel Carbajal supplied the assist as Gehrig scored her second goal of the season to make it 2-0.
The Golden Eagles maintained their pressure over the closing 30 minutes, generating seven additional shots and six corner kicks. Dayanara Gonzalez and senior Carisia Raygoza each put attempts on goal, with Raygoza forcing Ludwig to make her seventh save in the 88th minute.
Cal State LA's defense delivered another dominant performance, holding Westmont to only two shots and no attempts on goal. Goalkeeper Kendyl Sumlin recorded her second consecutive shutout without needing to make a save.
The Golden Eagles finished with a 19-2 advantage in total shots, a 9-0 edge in shots on goal and a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Cal State LA also committed just three fouls.
Quintero led the attack with four shots, including two on goal. Briana Chagolla and Ramirez added three attempts apiece, while Bailey Martinez and senior Madison Juarez each recorded two.
Senior contributors also included Camila Juarez, Peytyn Mize, Alyssa Polk, Alina Valdez and Carisia Raygoza, who all saw action in the victory. Carbajal and Gehrig each played the full 90 minutes.
The win improved Cal State LA to 3-0 on the season, while Westmont moved to 0-3-2. The Golden Eagles will travel to Point Loma on Thursday at 3:45 p.m.
