SAN DIEGO -- The No. 24 Cal State LA women's soccer team remained unbeaten Thursday after earning a 1-1 draw against Point Loma at the PLNU Soccer Field.
The Golden Eagles made their first appearance in the national rankings this season at No. 24 in the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Coaches Poll in partnership with United Soccer Coaches. Cal State LA began the season receiving votes before moving into the Top 25 following its unbeaten start.
Cal State LA moved to 3-0-1 on the season, while Point Loma moved to 1-1-3.
Analise Quintero opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles in the 29th minute. Luna Chavez created the opportunity and assisted Quintero, who found the back of the net at the 28:52 mark to give Cal State LA a 1-0 advantage.
The goal capped a productive stretch for Cal State LA, which placed three shots on target during the opening 16 minutes. Alina Valdez recorded two of those attempts, while Lizbet Saligan added another.
Goalkeeper Kendyl Sumlin helped the Golden Eagles carry their one-goal lead into halftime by making three first-half saves, including a stop on Gianna Masinter late in the period.
Point Loma pulled even in the 60th minute when Grace Nelson scored to tie the contest at 1-1.
The Golden Eagles responded by applying consistent pressure over the final 30 minutes. Dayanara Gonzalez, Jasmine Aguilar, Kristin Mijares and Itzel Ramirez each placed a shot on goal, but Point Loma goalkeeper Bea Levi made four second-half saves to keep the match level.
Cal State LA generated nine shots and six corner kicks after halftime. The Golden Eagles finished with 13 shots, eight shots on goal and a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks. Point Loma recorded 16 shots, including eight on target.
Quintero and Valdez led Cal State LA with three shots apiece. Quintero scored on her lone attempt on goal, while Valdez finished with two shots on target. Aguilar contributed two shots, including one on goal.
Sumlin played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with seven saves. Levi also recorded seven stops for Point Loma. The Golden Eagles return home to host Vanguard on Saturday at 7 p.m.
