POMONA — Cal State LA battled through a competitive second set, but No. 9 Cal State San Bernardino prevailed in straight sets Friday at Kellogg Arena.
The Coyotes won by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-16. Cal State LA dropped to 3-10 overall, while Cal State San Bernardino improved to 11-1. The match was part of a three-team pod play in Pomona and does not count towards the conference records.
Cal State San Bernardino opened the match with 14 kills and a .186 hitting percentage to take the first set, 25-16.
The Golden Eagles delivered their strongest challenge in the second set, which featured eight ties and three lead changes. Cal State LA recorded 10 kills in the frame and stayed close throughout before the Coyotes secured a 25-22 win.
Samarah DaCoud led the Golden Eagles with 11 kills and 13 digs for a double-double. She also recorded one service ace.
Kylie Grundman paced all players with 18 digs, while Teegan Charapata contributed five digs, three assists and a match-high two aces.
Mia Webster and Amber Walker each recorded three kills. Havannah Vogel finished with two kills and three blocks, including two solo efforts, while Naomi Jackson added two blocks.
McKinley Chase led Cal State LA with nine assists, and Seriah Demski added seven.
Kacie Pedersen paced Cal State San Bernardino with a match-high 13 kills and added nine digs. Sarai Ross produced seven kills on 14 attacks for a .429 hitting percentage, while Allison Legates recorded nine points on five kills and six blocks.
Cal State LA returns to action Wednesday with a 5 p.m. match at Concordia in Irvine.
