STOCKTON -- Cal State LA's women's golf team battled through a tough day at The Reserve at Spanos Park on Tuesday.
The second day of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships was halted by a four-and-a-half hour weather delay, but play resumed and the second round was completed.
The Golden Eagles weren't at their best on Tuesday and shot a 27-over-par 315 that was 21 shots higher than their magnificent first round. Cal State LA is still in second place with a 609 total, but the Golden Eagles are now 24 shots back of defending champion Cal State San Marcos and two shots ahead of third-place Cal State Monterey Bay.
Joshlyn Ayala shot a 2-over-par 74 on Tuesday and remains three shots back of leader Abby Sickles of Cal State San Marcos, who also shot a 74 on Tuesday. Sickles, who started the tournament with eight consecutive birdies, is at 4-under 140, while Ayala is at 1-under-par 143. They are the only two players in the field under par.
Ayala, who finished in a tie for third in this tournament last year, had three birdies on her round on Tuesday and has seven birdies and one eagle in her first two rounds.
Sarah Amaya and
Rilee Crosby are in a tie for 11th at 155. Amaya followed her opening round of 74 with an 81, while Crosby followed her opening round of 75 with an 80.
Talia Gutman and
Daniela Andrade are tied for 14th at 158. Gutman shot an 82 on Tuesday, while Andrade shot an 80.
The final round of the tournament will be held on Wednesday.
