Golden Eagles Finish Third At East Bay Tourney

ALAMEDA -- Cal State LA's women's golf team turned in a strong performance on Tuesday and finished third out of 19 teams at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay.

The Golden Eagles shot a second-round of even-par 288 and wound up third overall with a two-day score of 584. No. 16 Cal State San Marcos won the event with a two-day score of 563 and No. 35 Point Loma was second at 573. No. 39 Cal State LA was four shots clear of No. 36 Simon Fraser and 12 shots ahead of fifth-place and No. 50 Western Washington.

Cal State LA has now finished in the top-three in all six events so far in the 2025-26 season.

Joshlyn Ayala had the round of the day for the Golden Eagles, firing a 4-under-par 68 to vault into ninth place with a 36-hole score of 143. Ayala had five birdies on the day, giving her a total of seven for the tournament. She has now finished in the top-10 in all six tournaments for Cal State LA.

Talia Gutman had her second straight round of even-par 72 to finish in a tie for 10th at 144. After recording five birdies in the opening round, Gutman highlighted her second round with an eagle on her second hole of the day, the par-5 sixth hole. She got her score to 2-under-par with a birdie on the par-4 12th hole and added two more birdies before her finish.

Daniela Andrade also finished in a tie for 10th after a second round of 73 that included a pair of eagles on the par-5 15th hole and the par-5 17th hole. She also had a birdie to give her six birdies and two eagles for the tournament. She was the only player in the field to record two eagles in the tournament.

Sarah Amaya, Lisette Orellana and Rilee Crosby all finished in a tie for 50th with a score of 155. Amaya shot a 3-over-par 75 and was the fourth score for the Golden Eagles on Tuesday. After not recording a birdie on Monday, Amaya had four on Tuesday for her best round of the tournament. Orellana shot a final round of 77 that included a pair of birdies and Crosby, competing as an individual, had a final round of 76 that included a pair of birdies.

Cal State LA will return to action on March 9 at the Cal State San Marcos Fujikura Invitational at Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista.
