Cal State LA trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half at 26-10, but pulled to within 30-28 after a three-point play by Agbaosi. After falling behind by eight points, a jumper by Hansen made it 38-32 at halftime.

The Golden Eagles opened the second half with a 3-pointer from Vickers and baskets from Fields and Agbaosi to take their first lead of the game at 39-38. A 3-pointer by Vickers gave the Golden Eagles a 42-40 lead and a free throw by Pearson Jr. tied it at 43-43 with 15:30 to go, but the Otters scored the next six points and led for the rest of the game.
