Golden Eagles Break The Century Mark In Home Win

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team raced to a point total not seen since the 1998-99 season on Thursday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Association win over Stanislaus State.

The Golden Eagles exploded for 58 points in the second half and beat the Warriors, 101-66, in University Gym. Cal State LA (7-5, 4-3 CCAA) reached 100 points for the first time since a 105-83 win over Point Loma in the 1998-99 season. It was the first time since a 104-59 win over Cal State Northridge in the 1984-85 season that Cal State LA has hit 100 points in a CCAA game.

Nevaeh Asiasi led the way with a career-high 27 points, six rebounds, seven assists and four steals in a spectacular performance. Sofia Fidelus had 18 points, nine rebounds and eight assists and Ronyae Jackson had a career-high 18 points and eight rebounds.

MilaSarai Tau had an outstanding game for the Warriors (1-9, 0-7 CCAA), scoring a team-high 22 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Alyssa Premo had 16 points and Eryn Gardner had 13 rebounds and seven points.

Amaya Fuentes had nine points for the Golden Eagles, while Mariah Blake had eight points and three rebounds and Ariyah Smith had five points, five assists and four steals.

Cal State LA shot 48.8 percent for the game (39-of-80) and was 13-of-33 from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles were 10-of-15 from the free-throw line. Stanislaus State shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) and was 4-of-16 from 3-point range. The Warriors were 6-of-10 from the free-throw line. Stanislaus State had a 40-37 rebounding edge, but Cal State LA had only eight turnovers while forcing 26.

The Golden Eagles shot 61 percent in the third quarter while outscoring the Warriors, 30-11, to break the game open. The Golden Eagles had a 58-27 advantage in the second half after leading at halftime, 43-39.

Cal State LA trailed, 30-29, halfway through the second quarter, but a jumper by Asiasi and a 3-pointer by Fidelus gave the Golden Eagles the lead for good. A late 3-pointer by Fuentes gave the Golden Eagles a four-point halftime lead.

The Golden Eagles had the lead trimmed to 43-41 in the opening minute of the third quarter, but scored the next 11 points to take a 54-41 lead. Cal State LA led by double-digit margins the rest of the way and scored the final six points of the period for a 73-50 lead entering the final period.

Cal State LA scored the first four points of the fourth quarter and led comfortably the rest of the way.

Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with a home game against UC Merced.
